Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
I want to remodel my kitchen and/or bathroom. Now what?
The first step is to make your wish list. Put together any pictures or articles you might have showing styles, colors and designs you like. Take basic measurements of the area you will be working in and the placement of the current appliances, sinks, etc. See our measuring how-to guide for helpful hints.
Then stop in to Kitchen and Bath Unlimited to browse our showroom and consult with our kitchen and bathroom design specialists.
How much will my kitchen or bath remodel cost?
The cost of a kitchen remodel will vary greatly depending on the size of the kitchen or bathroom, scope of the project, quality of materials selected, and whether or not you want new appliances.
We encourage you to visit a showroom to identify the cabinet options (wood species, countertop type, etc.) that you like, and then speak with one of our qualified professional designers. Our kitchen and bathroom pros can help you determine your investment based on your needs and wants, then help you add or subtract options based on your budget.
What kind of payment do you accept? Do you have financing available?
Kitchen and Bath Unlimited offers a variety of ways to finance your project. We accept most major credit cards, checks, cash or if it's more convenient, we can arrange for financing.
What if I'm overwhelmed by all the choices?
Anyone can be overwhelmed by the many choices available. Go back to the basics - the original wish list - and add new ideas that you like and eliminate ideas that you have decided against. Your Kitchen & Bath Unlimited design specialist will be happy to guide you every step of the way.
What about my appliances?
Keep or replace? That is a decision that you will have to make. It is important to let your designer know the actual size of the appliances that you currently have or will be purchasing as these dimensions will impact the placement of cabinetry. If you're considering replacing your appliances, let your designer know, Kitchen and Bath Unlimited offers a full line of appliances for your shopping convenience.
How do I choose the right cabinets for my new kitchen?
There are several key differences between the types of cabinets. Identifying your needs and what style you're looking for is important in determining which type of cabinet is right for you.
Does one type of cabinet offer the door style you're looking for? Does a cabinet type offer the finish or wood species that you like? What additional features are you looking to add to your kitchen? These are just a few of the questions to answer before making your decision.
Talk to one of the Kitchen and Bath design specialists, and use this cabinet guide to help you narrow your selection:
Stock Cabinets
Kitchen and Bath Unlimited's stock cabinet line features dozens of doors styles, the most popular wood species, dozens of finishes and optional plywood sides and dove tailed drawers - and they can delivered much faster than custom or semi-custom cabinets. Stock isn't what it used to be.
Semi-Custom
Semi-custom cabinets are popular today. Semi custom kitchen cabinets are designed in a manner that allows for the modification in depth and width which enhances the opportunity for great customization. They also offer more door styles, cabinet options, cabinet types, and finishes than a stock cabinet line. The semi-custom kitchen cabinet line offers many more door styles, wood species, and wood finishes which can be mixed and matched in thousands of door style and finish combinations.
Semi-custom cabinets are high quality from top to bottom, with a moderate price range - an affordable cabinet and a great value.Custom
Custom cabinets can be made to meet any need or desire you have. The custom kitchen cabinet lines carried by Kitchen and Bath Unlimited offer a large variety of sizes, configurations and designs. Custom cabinets can also be constructed to almost any size or requirement you have.
The custom cabinet line at Kitchen and Bath Unlimited offers the the most door styles, wood species and finishes, including custom matched stain.
Custom cabinets are of the highest quality and offer virtually unlimited options, so you can create a one-of-a-kind dream kitchen with features galore.
What about countertops, when is the best time to make my selection?
We have a wide selection of countertop styles and materials to choose from. It is a good idea to make your countertop selection when you make your cabinetry selection. That way we can coordinate the installation of the countertop with the arrival of the cabinetry.
What material is best for countertops in my home?
Your preference, lifestyle and budget are all important factors when considering which countertop is best for your home. Our knowledgable design staff will work with you to determine the best fit for your needs. There are many different styles of countertops and materials from which they are made. For example, we carry countertop lines in ceramic tile, granite, engineered stone, laminate, marble as well as stainless steel.
Consumer Reports recently published an excellent overview of the features and benefits of different countertop materials. Excerpts of this report appear below.

Scratching surface on countertops
Bathroom countertops are a place where beauty and practicality can coexist. But in concrete? Or limestone? What about stainless steel?
As it turns out, these are just a few of the materials available to remodelers and home builders striving for a stylish and functional countertop. Others include granite, marble, ceramic tile and engineered stone. We recently tested nine countertop materials for how well they resisted stains, scratches, heat and impacts. We also evaluated them for appearance and price - all to help you match the look you want with the strengths you need.
Here's some of what we found:
Engineered stone. Our top-scoring material overall, this provided excellent resistance to stains, scratches and heat, but proved only "good" at withstanding impacts from a 5-pound weight. (The material's edges can also chip). Engineered stone comes in a variety of colors, and because it's waterproof, it needn't be sealed. Still, some people may not like it's uniform appearance.
Granite. Another excellent overall performer, granite is noted for its toughness, but must be sealed periodically to protect it from stains. Because it is real stone, coloring, veining and graining can vary significantly between and within pieces. Granite is sold by local fabricators and under such brands as Walker Zanger.
Ceramic tile. This is a good bet for consumers who want lots of choices at a low price. Ceramic comes in many colors and it's heat resistant. On the downside, it chips easily, and the grout may stain and absorb water, although tinted grout helps.
Laminate. Want to spend even less on countertops? Laminate is economical and versatile, while mimicking high-end materials. Unfortunately, it's easily scratched and isn't repairable. What's more, most products show seams.
Stainless Steel. True to its name, stainless steel resists most spills. But drain cleaners and hard-water-deposit removers can discolor it, while fingerprints, scratches and dents are easy to see. And the high-tech look doesn't come cheap.
Solid surfacing. The cost of this versatile, waterproof, seamless material can equal that of more-durable granite. Still, products come in many colors and provide easy repairs for small nicks.
Marble. As with granite, marble must be sealed periodically to protect it from most stains. (Even sealed product, however, is susceptible to staining from hard-water-deposit removers.) Unlike granite, marble is easily chipped and scratched.
As for concrete and limestone, neither scored very well overall in our tests. Even a high-quality sealer couldn't keep limestone from getting stained by nail-polish remover and other common spills. And while concrete can be shaped and colored to suit your space, it chips and scratches easily and requires a topical surface sealer for maximum stain resistance.

Step 3: New plumbing, if required, is installed.
Step 4: The walls are repaired and prepped for paint.
Step 5: The cabinets or bathroom fixtures are installed.
Step 6: The trim for the cabinets or bathroom fixtures is installed.
Step 7: For kitchen remodels, the countertop is fabricated or cut to size and installed.
Step 8: The final plumbing is connected and your kitchen or bathroom is functioning once again.
Step 9: The new floor is installed, where applicable.
